Archiving

A post about specific vehicles goes out of date when they sell. Archiving takes a post out of circulation without breaking its address.

What gets archived

AI Blog checks once a day. A New arrivals, Spotlight or Price drops post is archived when every vehicle in it is sold, deleted or unpublished, and has been for 3 days. The wait means a vehicle marked sold by mistake and put back on sale does not take its post offline.

A vehicle with a sale pending still counts as available. Recently sold, Guide and News posts are never archived by this check. A recently sold post is about vehicles that sold, and guides and news stay useful after one vehicle sells.

What archived means

  • The post stays online at the same address, so old links and bookmarks keep working.
  • A note at the top says the post is archived and the vehicles have sold, with a button to your current stock.
  • Search engines are told not to index it. This works with WordPress itself, Yoast SEO and Rank Math.
  • It is hidden from your blog page, category and tag pages, search results, feeds and the WordPress sitemap.
  • In the Posts tab it shows an Archived badge.

Archive or restore it yourself

In the review window of a published post, click Archive post. For an archived post the same place shows Restore post, which undoes all of the above.

Switching it off

In the Settings tab, When every vehicle in a post has sold can be set to Do nothing. You can still archive a post by hand. Each automatic archive is written to the Activity tab of Autopilot.

Why not delete the post?

A deleted post leaves broken links and loses whatever search traffic it earned. An archived post keeps the address and tells visitors where to look instead.
