Automatic Importer¶
The Automatic Importer extension simplifies the process of importing inventory by allowing you to automatically bring in vehicle data from CSV or XML files. Whether you receive inventory feeds from third-party providers or need to update your listings regularly, this extension ensures a smooth and efficient import process.
You can configure it to map data fields accurately, handle large imports with ease, and automate the process on a schedule using your server's cron jobs. By reducing manual data entry and keeping inventory up to date, the Automatic Importer helps streamline operations and improve efficiency.
This documentation walks you through setup, configuration, and best practices to maximize the benefits of automated imports.
Requirements¶
| Requirement | Value |
|---|---|
| DMS version | 1.0.0 or newer |
| License | Standard or higher |
| Source file | Must be reachable by URL (the Download a File import type) |
| Server | Ability to add a cron job (hosting panel, crontab, or WP-CLI) |
How it works¶
- You build an import in DMS → Import/Export as usual, choosing Download a File so the source can be fetched on every run.
- You mark the import as Automatic and give it a secret key plus the user new listings are assigned to.
- DMS generates a command for that import.
- You paste that command into your cron scheduler. Each time it runs, DMS re-downloads the file and processes every row using the mapping already saved on the import.
Because the mapping lives on the import itself, a scheduled run behaves exactly like pressing Start Import manually — no re-mapping required.
Next steps¶
- Settings — enable automatic importing and choose a secret key.
- Scheduling the Import — the cron command and its variants.
- Troubleshooting — what to check when a scheduled run does nothing.
