Instant Filtering¶
Instant Filtering makes your search results page react the moment a visitor clicks a filter. Normally every filter change sends a request back to your server and waits for a new batch of listings. With Instant Filtering, the whole inventory loads with the page, so filtering, sorting, and keyword search happen right in the browser with no wait.
The cards visitors see are rendered through your own SRI (Search Result Item) template, so they look exactly like they do today. Nothing about your design changes.
Requirements¶
| Requirement | Value |
|---|---|
| DMS version | A version that includes the dms_srp_posts_per_page filter |
| License | Standard or higher |
| Page builder | Elementor |
| Templates | An SRP template and at least one SRI template for the listing type |
Turning it on¶
Flip one toggle on the Listings widget in your current SRP template. Every filter widget you already have on that page keeps working, just instantly: checkboxes, dropdowns, ranges, radio buttons, color and image filters, toggles, order by, keyword search, pagination, reset, the view switcher, and Radius Search if you have it.
No new widgets and no template rebuild. See Setup.
How it works¶
- When the SRP loads, the server renders every listing for that type (up to the preload cap) through your SRI template and sends them all at once.
- Each listing's filterable values (category terms, price, status, dates, and so on) go along with it.
- When a visitor changes a filter, the browser hides the listings that no longer match and shows the ones that do. No request to the server.
- Sorting and pagination work the same way: the listings are already on the page, so they just reorder or page through.
Filtered pages keep the same URL format as a normal SRP (make[]=Ford, price[]=10000&price[]=30000, keyword=, order=), so shared links, the back button, and analytics behave as before.
The first visit after a change is slower
Rendering every card is the expensive part. The extension caches the result, so only the first page view after a listing changes pays that cost. See Caching and Performance.
Next steps¶
- Setup: turn it on for your current SRP.
- Caching and Performance: how the cache works and how to size the preload cap.
- Troubleshooting: missing listings, stale results, filters that don't react.
