Search Autocomplete¶
The Search Autocomplete extension enhances the search functionality of your website by providing real-time, dynamic search results as users type. This extension allows you to add a search input to any page, making it easier for visitors to find vehicles quickly and efficiently. The results are displayed instantly in a dropdown beneath the input field, reducing the time users spend searching for the right listing. With the fully customizable template builder, you can control the appearance and layout of the search results to match your website's design and branding.
This documentation will guide you through setup, configuration, and best practices to ensure seamless integration and an optimized search experience.
Requirements¶
| Requirement | Value |
|---|---|
| DMS version | 1.0.0 or newer |
| License | Starter or higher |
| Page builder | Elementor, for the input element and the SRI template |
How it works¶
- You build an SRI (Search Result Item) template that defines what a single result looks like.
- You drop the Search Autocomplete element onto a page and point it at a listing type and that SRI template.
- As a visitor types, the extension queries that listing type and renders each match through your SRI template in a dropdown below the input.
- Clicking a result takes the visitor straight to that listing.
Two behaviors worth knowing before you configure anything:
- Searching starts at the first character and is debounced by half a second, so a request fires once typing pauses rather than on every keystroke.
- The dropdown returns up to 100 matches. It is a quick-jump tool, not a replacement for your search results page — for broad queries, send visitors to the SRP instead (see Input Name).
Next steps¶
- Search Result Item Template — build this first; the element requires it.
- Search Autocomplete Element — placing, configuring, and styling the input.
- Troubleshooting — no results, unstyled results, nothing happening.
