Troubleshooting¶
Filtering still reloads results from the server¶
Instant filtering isn't on for this SRP. Check:
- The toggle is on the right template. Open the SRP template this page actually uses, select the Listings widget, and confirm Enable Instant Filtering is on under the Instant Filtering tab. Sites with several SRP templates need it on each one.
- The template was updated after switching the toggle on.
- The extension is active in DMS → Extensions, and your license is Standard or higher.
- A page cache isn't serving an old copy. Clear your caching plugin or host cache after changing the setting.
Some listings never show up¶
Only listings inside the Instant Filtering Preload Cap can be found. The newest listings are loaded first, so with more listings than the cap, the oldest ones drop out of every result. Raise the cap above the type's inventory size.
Other causes:
- Hide Sold Listings is on for the listing type, and the missing listings are sold.
- The listing isn't published, or it's hidden from the SRP by its own visibility settings. Instant Filtering only includes listings that would show on a normal SRP.
- The page only shows some statuses. A status prefilter on the SRP page still applies.
A listing I just edited shows old details¶
The cache for a type clears whenever a listing on it is saved, so the next page view should be current. If it isn't:
- Check the page cache first. A full-page cache can hold the old page no matter what Instant Filtering does. Clear it and reload.
- Check for changes made outside WordPress. An edit written straight to the database, or by a tool that skips WordPress's save hooks, won't clear the cache. It will still refresh within an hour, or clear the DMS cache to refresh it now.
- Delete the cache folder as a last resort:
wp-content/uploads/dms-instant-filter/. It's rebuilt on the next page view.
The first page load is slow¶
Expected after any listing change. The first visitor rebuilds the cache, which means rendering every card. Page views after that read from the cache.
If every load is slow, not just the first:
- The uploads folder may not be writable, so the cache is never saved. Check that
wp-content/uploads/dms-instant-filter/exists and contains.jsonfiles after a page view. - Something is saving listings constantly (an import running every few minutes, for example), clearing the cache before it's ever reused.
- The preload cap is very high. A cached page with thousands of cards is still a large page. See Choosing a preload cap.
A filter does nothing¶
Every core filter widget is supported. If one doesn't react:
- Check the category is filterable. Only categories with Filterable switched on are included in the listing data.
- Open the browser console. A filter key the extension doesn't recognise logs a warning starting with
[dms-instant-filter], naming the key. Send that line to support.
Switching views is slower than filtering¶
Expected. A different view is a different SRI template, so its cards have to be fetched once. Filtering after the switch is instant again. See View switcher.
Badges or other card extras are missing¶
Cards are rendered with the same hooks as a normal SRP, so positioned badges and add-ons like Content Divider should appear. If something is missing only on instant pages, it likely changed after the cache was built. Save any listing on that type to clear the cache, then reload.
