AI Listing Copy¶
DMS can write a listing's description, title and SEO fields for you from the listing's own details. You can do it one listing at a time while editing, or turn it on for a whole import so every new listing gets its copy as it arrives.
You always review the result. Nothing is published by the AI on its own.
Which AI feature do you want?
| If you want to... | Use |
|---|---|
| Write the copy for a listing (this page) | AI listing copy, built in |
| Ask in plain language to do things on the site (change prices, create listings, update leads) | The AI Actions extension |
| Write blog posts about your inventory | The AI Blog extension |
Writing copy on a listing¶
On a listing's edit page there are two Generate with AI buttons:
- In the Description box: writes the listing description.
- In the SEO Performance box: writes the title, focus keyword and meta description.
Fill in the listing's categories and details first. The AI reads the values you've set (make, model, year, options and so on), so more detail gives better copy. Click the button, wait a few seconds, and the text appears in the fields. Edit it however you like, then save.
Next to each button is a small badge with your AI credit balance. It turns yellow and then red as you run low. Click it to open your billing page.
AI Settings¶
The gear icon next to Generate with AI opens AI Settings. Settings are saved for your whole site.
Text Settings
- Tone: Professional, Friendly, Enthusiastic, Luxury or Conservative.
- Paragraph Count: how many paragraphs to write.
Call to Action Settings
Add a closing line to every description. Choose the Call to Action Type:
- Link: a link to your contact page.
- Form: a form shortcode.
- Contact Information: text you enter, such as your phone number and address.
- None: no call to action.
SEO Settings
Choose what the SEO button is allowed to replace: Title, Focus Keyword, Permalink (the slug, built from the new title) and Meta Description. Leave off anything you've written by hand.
Using AI during an import¶
AI can write copy for every listing an import brings in. This is the bulk option.
- Set up or edit the import and go to the field mapping step.
- Next to the Title, Description, Focus Keyword and Meta Description fields, turn on Generate with AI. Use the AI button at the top of the step to open the same AI Settings.
- Run the import.
The listings come in first, then the copy is generated in the background, so a large import doesn't slow down or time out. The text fills in over the next few minutes.
- Each field is generated once per listing. Running the import again won't write it twice.
- To redo copy that was already generated, tick Overwrite previously generated AI data on existing listings in the import's options.
- Only the fields you switched Generate with AI on for are written. The rest come from your file as usual.
Credits¶
AI copy uses AI credits. The cost depends on the amount of text, so a longer description costs more than a short meta description. Your balance is shown next to the button.
- Each plan includes a monthly allowance that resets on the 1st of the month.
- Extra credit packs can be bought from your account, and they never expire. Free credits are used first.
- You get an email warning when your balance gets low.
AI Actions and AI Blog use the same pool of AI credits.
The first-use notice¶
The first time you generate AI copy, DMS asks you to accept a short notice. It says that AI text can contain mistakes, so you should check it before it goes live, and how your listing data is handled. It appears once per user.
Who can use it¶
- Description: needs the Modify Description permission.
- SEO fields: needs the Modify SEO permission.
- Imports: whoever can run imports.
See Permissions & Roles.
Tips for better copy¶
- Complete the listing's categories and details before generating.
- Pick the tone that matches your brand and keep it the same across your inventory.
- Read every result. The AI works from the data you give it, so a wrong spec in means a wrong spec out.
- For SEO, set your own focus keyword first if you have one, and turn off Focus Keyword in the SEO settings so it isn't replaced.
