Mobile App

The Dealer.ms app lets you work on your inventory from the lot. Add a trade-in in a minute, scan its VIN, take the photos, and it's on your site.

What you can do in the app

  • Browse and search all your listings.
  • View, create and edit a listing.
  • Scan a VIN barcode to start a new listing.
  • Capture text from a photo (OCR).
  • Edit listing details and media from your phone.

Android: Get the app on Google Play.

iPhone: coming soon.

What you need

  • An active DMS license on the site. The app is included with the Pro plan.
  • On Starter and Standard, add the app connector, a separate add-on billed monthly. It's the same thing the website calls the App Access add-on.
  • A WordPress user on the site with the permissions you want the app to have.

If the site isn't entitled, the app can't connect and shows a licensing error. Keys you've already created are kept, and work again as soon as the license or add-on is active.

Connecting the app

You connect with an API key that belongs to a WordPress user. The app can only do what that user can do.

  1. On your site go to Users > Profile (or edit another user, if you have permission).
  2. Find DMS API Keys, type a label such as Phone, and click Generate Key.
  3. A QR code appears for the key.
  4. Open the app and choose to scan the QR code. Point the camera at the one on screen.

The QR code holds your site address and the key, so the app has everything it needs. If you can't scan it (setting up on the same phone, for instance), copy the Site URL and API Key shown beside it and paste them into the app.

Treat the key like a password

Anyone with the key can act as that user. Make a separate key for each person or device, and use the label to remember which is which.

Each user can have several keys. You can regenerate a key (the old one stops working at once) or delete it to revoke access, for example when a phone is lost or an employee leaves.

Scanning a VIN

In the app, choose to add a vehicle and scan the VIN barcode. The app reads the VIN and the site decodes it, filling in the make, model, year and specs.

VIN scans use the same lookup credits as the VIN box on the website. See VIN Decoding. Free lookups come with every plan, and extra credits can be bought.

What it costs

  • Pro: included.
  • Starter and Standard: the app connector add-on is billed monthly. See the pricing page for the current price.
  • VIN scans use VIN lookup credits. Browsing and editing listings use no credits.

Permissions

The app uses the same permissions as the website. A user who can't edit prices on the site can't edit them in the app. Create a dedicated user with a limited role for anyone who only needs part of the access. See Permissions & Roles.

For developers

The app talks to the site through the DMS REST API, and the same API is open to your own integrations. See the REST API overview and Authentication.
